Železniška Postaja Ljubljana
Železniška Postaja Ljubljana is the official name of Ljubljana’s main train station. It is situated 10 minutes walk from the heart of Ljubljana’s city centre and in the station you find a ticket sales office, waiting rooms and a left luggage facility. See the map at the bottom of this article.
To view the timetable for trains via Železniška Postaja Ljubljana, visit the Slovenia railways website: http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/ . The website also includes opening hours of the ticket offices even though it doesn’t sell the tickets which can be a little confusing.
Železniška Postaja Ljubljana Discounts
If you arrive by train to Ljubljana, you automatically qualify for a 15 % discount with Hotel Park Ljubljana. It is a great “green initiative” by the hotel who only asks you to show your ticket at arrival to the hotel. It is also wise to inform the hotel that you will arrive by train and are interested in the discount to avoid any misunderstandings. History of Železniška Postaja Ljubljana
The train station was built in 1849 during the time when the South railway between Vienna and Trieste. The main building was later renovated in 1980 and it has today become a major train hub in Slovenia.
A memorial of James Joyce can be found at the Železniška Postaja Ljubljana. It is a sculpture by Jakov Brdar and it commemorates the fact that James Joyce spent a night at the railway station in 1904. He was travelling through Ljubljana on his way to Trieste.
