Daily Picture of Ljubljana – international women’s day
Ljubljana celebrates the International women’s day much more than Valentines day. The tradition is that every girl should get a flower so you see a lot of people walking with flowers today.
In today’s photo, you can see a girl with a flower who is also interviewed by a TV crew in front of the national poets statue.
Photos from Ljubljana’s Dragon Carnival 2012
The Pust parade took place in glorious sunshine today in Ljubljana with all the traditional characters. After several week’s of freezing temperatures, the sunshine and warm weather was warmly welcomed and Ljubljana’s streets were filled with children and adults dressed up in fantastic costumes.
The parade with everything from big dragons to school children dress up as smurfs did of course have all the traditional Pust characters. Here is a selection of the photos from this morning:
Jože Plečnik – Ljubljana’s famous architect
Ljubljana owns many of it’s famous buildings and landmarks to the Ljubljana born architect Jože Plečnik. It is therefore not surprising that the city celebrates this architect like no others. He did not only create the wonderful pedestrian areas along the river in Ljubljana but his most recognised feature of Ljubljana is the famous Trible Bridge, Tromostovje.

The History of Ljubljana Train Station
The station was built during the time of the Austrian/Hungarian Empire in 1849 when the railway between Trieste and Vienna was created. The station building was renovated as late as 1980. At the Ljubljana train station you also find a plaque of James Joyce which reminds us of when James Joyce spent a night in station. He had to stop here in 1904 when he was travelling to Trieste.

Expedia fined for false hotel information
It was recently announced that the government of France fined Expedia Inc. 427 thousand Euros for ‘misleading marketing practices’.
The French court ruled that Expedia was displaying incorrect availability of hotel rooms, incorrect information about the hotels and falsely advertising standard rates as promotional discounts.
The French hotelier federation Synhorcat filed a complaint with the French government about Expedia’s practices. This resulted in a ruling in the courts of a €305,000 fine which will go to Synhorcat and €79,000 to be paid to the Hôtel de la Place du Louvre in Paris and a further €43,000 to the Château Guilguiffin in Landudec, France.
Synhorcat commented that this is a ‘victory for consumers and hospitality professionals, it carries within it the seeds of a moralization of e-commerce as a whole.’
Expedia later released a statement to the press saying that ‘The ruling acknowledges our efforts to ensure the information contained on its websites is as simple, accessible and comprehensible as possible and also that significant efforts have been made beyond our legal obligations to add further information regarding both phone numbers and their conditions and hotel availability displayed on FR.hotels.com and Expedia.fr. TripAdvisor has also duly made changes to the wording on tripadvisor.fr on pages where prices or availability are shown in cooperation with the investigation.’
It might or might not been a deliberate action of Expedia to mislead the customer with its advertising but it does show once again that a large booking agency can not keep the details of all its local hotels up to date world wide.

The New Look of Stari Tisler
I happened to walk past Stari Tišler today and discovered that the building has got a new look. The earlier yellow walls and the red paint on the stones have been repainted in a more traditional yellow and grey. This deserved a photo so that you can see the changes for yourself.
This might be a small change but if you direct people to the white and red Gostilna, you are likely to get someone confused.
To help us compare with what it used to look like, here is a photo taken earlier this year.
Let us know if you like the new style or not!

The Dubliners History
he band have been performing since 1962 and they started as the ‘Ronnie Drew Ballade Group’ even though the name was soon changed to the today iconic name The Dubliners. The name only came about by chance as one of the members happened to be reading James Joyce’s book by the name ‘Dubliners’.
The Dubliner’s became hugely successful in the 1960′s and they became one of the biggest pioneers for Irish folk music outside of Ireland. They reached two top 20 records in the UK pop charts in the 60′s but did not have another top 20 hit until the collaboration with The Pogues in 1987. The Dubliners also had followers in the music industry from musicians like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Roy Orbison and Pink Floyd.
