Ljubljana Hotel Information

The summer of 2011 has come and gone and many new Ljubljana hotel reviews have been posted on booking.com and other websites. It is time to see if the new reviews have changed anything in the top 10 ratings so we decided to take a look.

Back in May 2011, we looked at the top rated hotels by booking.com and other websites and a lot has changed since then and we even have a completely new Ljubljana hotel at the top spot!

 

The top 10 Ljubljana hotels according to Booking.com are…

1. Hotel Cubo Ljubljana
9.6/10 rating from 60 reviews

The latest arrival of the hotels in Ljubljana has shot in to the top rating on booking.com. We would like to congratulate Hotel Cubo for this great launch achievement and we hope that they will be able to keep the top rating.

Hotel Cubo opened earlier this year and it is located on Slovenska cesta, the main street through the city of Ljubljana. It is also very close to the Drama theatre and the main classical concert hall Cankarjev Dom.

 

2. Lesar Hotel Angel
9.1/10 rating from 328 reviews

This luxurious boutique hotel in the heart of the old town holds on to its top ranking of 9.1 which is commendable considering that they’ve received 69 new reviews over the summer.

 

3. Grand Hotel Union Executive
9.0/10 rating from 311 reviews

This luxury hotel in the absolute heart of Ljubljana has climbed up one position during the summer. The Grand Hotel Union Executive has been the choice of royalties and heads of state and this climb shows that they are certainly keeping their customers happy.

 

4. Grand Hotel Union Business
9.0/10 rating from 195 reviews

The less glamorous and more affordable neighbour the GHU Executive has kept it’s rating but unfortunately slipped down the chart due to the number of reviews and the arrival of Hotel Cubo. We assume that there is no decline of this great hotel but the competition within the Booking.com’s ranking has become harder.

 

5. Antiq Palace Hotel & Spa****
9.0/10 rating from 69 reviews

This great and hidden boutique hotel in Ljubljana has climbed up the rankings from 8.7 to 9. In the spring, this was the favourite hotel on Tripadvisor and we assume that the popularity has rubbed off on booking.com’s customers.

 

6. Penzion Pod Lipo
8.8/10 rating from 30 reviews

We’re happy to see that Penzion Pod Lipo has jumped in to the top 6 after not being present in the top 10 list before the summer. This pension has however always been highly regarded and the big rise is more likely to come from allocating more rooms to booking.com than a sudden change in standard. It is also great to see one of the best value budget hotel’s in Ljubljana in the top 10.

 

7. Birokrat Aparthotel
8.7/10 rating from 688 reviews

A small drop in ranking can make a big difference in the position and this is what has affected Birokrat hotel Ljubljana. A drop with 0.1 percent in the ranking meant that it slipped from 3rd place down to 7th position. Don’t let this fool you though as Birokrat Aparthotel is still one of the best hotels in the outskirts of Ljubljana.

 

8. Allegro Hotel
8.6/10 rating from 200 reviews

This boutique hotel in Ljubljana’s old town was this spring suffering from ongoing roadworks digging up the whole pedestrian road outside the hotel. The workers and fences are now gone and its ratings are going up. We’re looking forward to seeing it climb further up the ratings as it is regarded as one of the best boutique hotels of Ljubljana.

 

9. Design Hotel Mons
8.6/10 rating from 278 reviews

Regarded by some to be the best standard four star hotel in Ljubljana but it has unfortunately slipped down 0.1 points in booking.com’s rating.

 

10. Hotel Lev Ljubljana
8.6/10 rating from 185 reviews

The exclusive 5 star hotel of Ljubljana stays still on it’s 8.6 review. We earlier speculated that the lower ranking could come from higher expectations on that extra star than the rest. The summer has certainly moved around the list of booking.com’s top rated hotels in Ljubljana and it is exciting to see that Hotel Cubo managed to take the top position. You should however always look at the number of reviews as well as the rating. It is easier to get a good rating with a smaller amount of reviews than to keep the standard and every single guest happy over several years.

 

Hotel News this week -

Expedia has announced that they have started a new rating called ‘walk score’. This is a new hotel rating made up from how easy it is for guests to walk to different points of interest from the hotels. It is an attempt to appeal to the guests who arrive without a car or bike so that they can easier find the right hotel.

We had a search on the Expedia website expecting a kind of number or distance from certain attractions but the result is presented in a way much easier to understand than numbers.

Here are two examples of Ljubljana Hotels walking score that we found so far:

1. Best Western Premier Hotel Slon

3. Grand Hotel Union Business

The interesting thing is this is once again an example of a big booking website showing information that is kind of true but not the whole picture. For example Central Hotel and Grand Hotel Union Business is only about 100 meters away from each other. I would also personally recommend that if you walk from Central Hotel to Dragon Bridge, the nicest way to walk to the Dragon Bridge is past Grand Hotel Union Business, Triple Bridge and through the market.

These informative little texts might be great for a quick overview of a hotel in a large city but for a small city like Ljubljana, it is likely to confuse more than help. We often joke with visitors that nothing is ever further away than 15 minutes walk from their Ljubljana hotel as long as they’re in the center.

 

 

 

In this third review of Ljubljana hotel booking websites, we take a look at Hotels.com’s top 10 list compiled by their guest ratings. The first slight flaw in this list is that it doesn’t take in to consideration the number of reviews which isn’t unusual for hotel booking websites. However, it is slightly more obvious to make a difference here as the reviews are fewer and the top rated hotel only have 1 single review. The top 10 list is as follows:

 

1. Antiq Palace Hotel and Spa

A golden review of 10 out of 10 points places this new luxury hotel at the top of the list. Well done Antiq Palace!

 

2. Pri Mraku Guest House

Not far away from Antiq Palace you find this great guest house close to the French Revolution Square and the popular Le Petite Cafe. We have not seen Pri Mraku in the earlier top 10 lists but it deserves a good second place with a 9.6 rating from 5 gust reviews.

 

shared 3rd place: Hotel Mons

This design and conference hotel Ljubljana is located at the Ljubljana ring-road is a good hotel with easy access in to the city center. It has the same guest rating of 9.2 as the 4th and the 5th place but for some reason not shown on the website it has beaten the other two equally rated Ljubljana hotels. Actually, the only viewable difference would be the lower price so we have decided to give all three hotels the position ‘shared 3′.

With 21 guest ratings, Hotel Lev Ljubljana has managed to get the shared third place which is suggesting that they’ve had many happy hotel guests. This isn’t surprising with the top service from this only 5 star hotel in Ljubljana

 

shared 3rd place: Best Western Premier Slon

Hotel Slon has proven to have among the most hotel reviews on all booking websites reviewed so far and there is no exception here. With 69 reviews, it is the most reviewed Ljubljana hotel in the top 10 and to get an average top ranking of 9.2 is commendable. Hotel Slon is certainly inspiring their guests to write good reviews about them.

 

6. Grand Hotel Union Executive

The luxury art nouveau hotel deserves the rate of 9.0 in our opinion but it is often beaten by it’s mid-range sister hotel GHI Business in the top 10 lists. Could this be a sign that the reviewers on Hotels.com are happy to pay a little extra for the luxury?

 

shared 7th place: Ambient Hotel

This is the first time we’ve seen the Ambient Hotel come up in a Top 10 list. With a good average rating of 8.6 from 4 reviews it deserves the place but it’s location in Domzale which is a suburb or more precisely a town close to Ljubljana, it might be a little misleading. Either way, this is a great little hotel so if you’re prepared to travel in to Ljubljana, this could be the perfect choice.

 

shared 7th place: City Hotel

The modern City Hotel is located in the centre of Ljubljana. It is a popular choice and we often come across it in the top 10 lists which suggests that the customers are happy too. If you want a simple modern feel to your hotel in the centre, this is the place for you.

 

9. Grand Hotel Union Business

 

A very popular business hotel in Ljubljana which shares many facilities with it’s more luxurious neighbor GHU Executive, this is often a perfect choice if you want to stay in the center of Ljubljana. The exterior isn’t as pretty but if that doesn’t matter, there is no reason not to consider this hotel for your stay in Ljubljana

 

10. Central Hotel

Just one block down on the same street as Grand Hotel Executive and Business, you find this slightly more of a cheap Ljubljana hotel but still with good quality. A good choice if you want a nice hotel but save a little on the price.

 

We have to think to ourselves how reliable these lists are when there are so few reviews. Should the list also be allowed to only consider the rating and not the number of reviews as it is amazing to see the top result with only one single review. However, there is not a bad hotel on this list and it is also interesting to see that there are more luxury hotels at the top of the list which suggests that the reviewers on hotels.com prefer a bit of luxury.

If we agree with these top 10 lists is not the purpose of these top lists reviews but it is meant to open our eyes and get new ideas.

Last week we look at the top 10 Ljubljana Hotels according to Tripadvisor’s website which revealed a slightly unexpected result. This week it is time to see which are the top 10 ‘Best Rated’ Ljubljana hotels according to booking.com.

The list is made up of ratings from all their reviewers and all of those have booked with their website to be able to write a review. It is likely to be trustworthy that they are real reviews but it is also likely to be biased towards the people who book their hotels on the internet.

The Top 10 Ljubljana Hotels are…

1. Lesar Hotel Angel

This great little boutique hotel in the heart of Ljubljana’s old town is crowned the best hotel in Ljubljana by booking.com. With a superb ranking of 9.1 out of 10 it is a great achievement considering it has had 259 reviews. We would like to congratulate Lesar Hotel Angel for receiving so many top reviews.

 

2. Grand Hotel Union Business

The less glamorous hotel in the Grand Hotel Union Ljubljana chain has just missed out on the top spot with a ranking of 9.0. As this business hotel is sharing some facilities with it’s neighbor GHI Executive, it offers great value for money and we completely understand that the reviews are good. The slightly less appealing exterior might explain why it is only the 9th most popular hotel on booking.com but if you are able to over look the front, you can’t go wrong with booking this Ljubljana hotel.

 

3. Birokrat Aparthotel

The third place was a slight surprise to us but Birokrat Aparthotel certainly does deserve the bronze medal. It received a rating of 8.8 with an amazing 479 reviews. It is one of the best value apartment and rooms located 2.5 miles outside of the city center. It is also located close to the new Stozice stadium in Ljubljana making it an ideal place to stay if you’re hear for a game or a concert.

 

4. Grand Hotel Union Executive

With the same ranking as Birokrat but with less reviews, this luxury hotel in the absolute center of Ljubljana comes in on the 4th place. With a customer list of royals and head of states, we assume that most of the top customers book direct with the hotel and therefore don’t qualify to review them on this website. We are actually happily surprised to see this Ljubljana hotel so high up on the list for just this reason. Either way, this is a great hotel which we are glad to recommend to everyone.

 

5. Design Hotel Mons

The ratings are getting very close between the hotels and this great Ljubljana hotel, located on the ringroad receives a rating of 8.7 with 217 reviews. On top of it’s big conference center and great interior, this hotel is one of the easiest to access on the ringroad if you arrive by car. Easy shuttles in to the city center gives Hotel Mons the edge to offer both the calm of the forest around it and the easy access to Ljubljana’s city center.

 

6. Antiq Palace Hotel

This is Ljubljana’s newest luxury hotel which receives the same amount of ratings as Hotel Mons but with an understandably lower number of reviews. After all, it hasn’t been around for long enough to get this number up. It is interesting though that this was TripAdvisor’s top rated hotel which shows that their is a big difference between how the lists are put together. If you are looking for a bit of luxury in the center of Ljubljana, you can’t go wrong with Antiq Palace Hotel and Spa.

 

7. Best Western Premier Hotel Slon

With 472 reviews, this classic Ljubljana hotel is also the most popular hotel on this website but the rating of 8.6 only allowed for a 7th place on this recommended list. It does however continue to be a top ranked hotel and Tripadvisor ranked it as the second best hotel with substantially more reviews than their top hotel. All in all, Hotel Slon is a great hotel in the heart of the Ljubljana center and it is definitely worth a visit.

 

8. Hotel Lev

Ljubljana’s only 5 star hotel located in the center receives a rating of 8.6. It is possible that the high expectations of that extra star encourage the reviewers to not rank it the top hotel but this is only  our speculation. With great views over the city center from this tall glass-mirror building together with a great service, you are unlikely to go wrong with booking this Ljubljana hotel.

 

9. Allegro Hotel

A smaller boutique hotel in the heart of Ljubljana’s old town which in our eyes deserves a higher ranking than 8.4. It is likely that the recent road works outside the hotel which has been going on for too long has affected the guests reviews. If you are looking for a hotel with a personal touch in Ljubljana’s old town,you should certainly consider Allegro Hotel.

 

10. Ahotel

The last hotel on the list is Ahotel which is located on the outskirt of the city. If you don’t require to be staying the center of the hotel, this is a hidden gem which won’t disappoint you. With the same rating as Allegro Hotel of 8.4, Ahotel grabs position number 10.

 

 

Having reviewed several top Ljubljana hotel lists there is one thing that grabs our attention. This recommended list varies substantially from their most popular list which for example has got Hotel Park on the second place which didn’t even make their top 20 of best reviews. We can therefore assume that most people who has book with booking.com value the price more than the reviews.

Finally,  the list is extremely different from TripAdvisor’s top 10 list which leaves the question open: Which list is most reliable or suitable to your needs?

The best known website for hotel reviews is undoubtedly Tripadvisor.com and even though it has come under a lot of criticism over the last years, it is still a very popular choice for finding information about the hotels. There is no difference if you’re looking for a Ljubljana hotel so we have decided to take a look at which accommodation is ranked the top 10 Ljubljana hotels on the 5th May 2011.

 

1. Antiq Palace Hotel & Spa

With hardly a bad word said about this new luxury hotel, it takes the top spot as the top ranked Ljubljana hotel. With 22 reviews and a 4.5/5 ranking, we are happy to congratulate the Antiq Palace to the top position on Tripadvisor.

 

2. BEST WESTERN Premier Hotel Slon

As a close second on the list, it is amazing that Hotel Slon can keep a top ranking with the 204 reviews that has been written over the years. We can highly recommend this Ljubljana hotel.

 

3. Mons Hotel

Being a hotel on the outskirt of Ljubljana, it is a great achievement to get the third place in the Trip Advisor’s ranking.

 

4. Grand Hotel Union Business

The mid-range hotel in the Grand Hotel Union change has beaten its more glamorous partner ‘Executive’ with one spot on the Ljubljana hotel chart. Not bad, considering that the first review mentioned in the list is complaining about the breakfast.

 

5. Grand Hotel Union Executive

This hotel was good enough for the Queen of England and Bill Clinton but Tripadvisor is only ranking it as number 5. However,  with the second highest number of 151 reviews it is not surprising that some people brought down the ranking.

 

6. AHotel Hotel Ljubljana

A great value hotel if you have a car as the public transport is mentioned in some reviews to be the negative part. Either way, AHotel is a excellent hotel and it has managed to reach position number 6 with 32 reviews which is a great achievement.

 

7. MartaStudio

MartaStudio is the only apartments or suites that has made it in to the top 10 list. It seems like the owners has done a great job inspiring their visitors which has left them with top reviews. Even though there are only 6 reviews, MartaStudio certainly deserves the 7th place in this list.

 

8. Antiq Hotel

The boutique hotel which is more famous to the locals in Ljubljana than it’s more luxury partner ‘Antiq Palace’ only managed to sneak in on Ljubljana hotel position number 8. However, it is still a well recommended place in the heart of the old town so it wouldn’t surprise us if it climbed up the list in the future.

 

9. Hotel Lev Ljubljana

The glorious 5 star hotel in Ljubljana is surprisingly found this low down on the list but the first review is questioning just if this is a 5 star hotel. Many guests still loves this hotel and have told us that they’re happily going back here again.

 

10. Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana

Located close to the ring-road of Ljubljana, the first review is mentioning just that lack of central location. Then again, if you know the location before you book there is no reason why you should be disappointed with the Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana.

 

Finally, we would like to congratulate all the hotels that made it in to this top 10 list on Tripadvisor. The is not only a matter of having a great hotel and a good social media campaign will encourage more good comments. For those who don’t trust the rankings on Tripadvisor, you can see this as an award in social media marketing. You should also be aware of that this ranking will change over time so this list is only valid at the time of this post.
